Creating momentum

Summary

What if creating something small everyday and putting it out in the world can help you create more?

[00:00:00] You are listening to the Daily 5, an experimental podcast by Aurooba, where I talk about something for five minutes. So let's get to it, shall we?

[00:00:16] There are a few things that, for whatever reason, always end up sticking with you for me. . One of those things is this blog post I read almost a decade ago by Nathan Barry before he was the CEO of Convertkit and was a designer, coder, and more importantly, a blogger, a writer, and he wrote this farily short blog post called something like The Commitment That Changed My Life or something.

[00:01:02] And in that blog post he talked about how he decided to make this small commitment where I say small, but it wasn't, uh, just a commitment to write a thousand words every single day. Every single day he would write a thousand words and he kept track of it. He made sure that he did it. And in this blog post he recounts how this allowed him to finish his first ebook, sell it for a successful, like a really good amount of money and, you know, put a lot more eyes on his blog.

[00:01:44] In fact, I think that's how I discovered him myself, and I don't know, it's not new advice. It's not something new that he introduced or created. It's advice that everyone knows and I think all of our parents say, you know, be consistent. Just do it every day. You can do this. Or at least my parents did, but it always just stuck with me [the Nathan Barry post].

[00:02:12] And these past few days. while I've been on holiday and I've just been thinking about how can I create something or how can I create momentum in my own life to create something? Because that commitment, he made those thousand words, that was momentum. Once you're at a thousand, it's easier to get in the flow and write more if you're doing it every day.

[00:02:46] It becomes easier, and I'm not sure that I'm ready to commit to a thousand words or something really big right now, but I wanna know what it might be like to create something, something small every single day and put it out in the world. I mean, Nathan was keeping it private and he did publish, but not every single day.

[00:03:10] And I'm sure we didn't see many of those thousand words. for me, I think I need some way to not only create, but then also to share what I create, put it out there, you know, and not be afraid. So I've, you know, this is what that pod, this podcast is about. I want to record five minutes about something, something on my mind.

[00:03:40] Every single day. I don't wanna really edit it too much or anything, and I wanna publish it every single day, not just business days, but every single day. I don't know if I can do it or not. I mean, I am not the most consistent person in the world. I think the best consistent, the most consistent I've ever been has been maybe four months.

[00:04:06] And that wasn't like a daily project, it was like three days a week kind of thing. But you know, maybe this is something I can do and I have no reason, no external factor driving me to do it. So I have to rely on intrinsic motivation and I'm keeping it small. So I guess, let's see how it goes. And yeah, it's just an experiment.

[00:04:34] Maybe some of you will be interested and follow along, and if you do, let me know. It's all good encouragement. I'll see you in the next episode. Thanks for listening. Talk to you tomorrow.
