What do we do with our billion ideas?

Summary

An unfinished thought about how we can ship more and take advantage of the ideas we are constantly generating.

[00:00:00] You are listening to the Daily Five, an experimental podcast by Aurooba, where I talk about something for five minutes. So let's get to it, shall we?

[00:00:16] I know for a fact that I am not alone when I say that I have a lot of ideas every day. I think I come up with like three ideas. Some that are just fun projects, some that I think I could probably monetize. And do you know how many of those ideas actually come to fruition? Maybe like 2% of them. And even if they come to fruition, I may not always follow through, but I am trying to become better about that.

[00:00:56] And I found myself thinking yesterday, [00:01:00] what do we do with these ideas? You know, how can we make use of these ideas? And I posted this frustration on Mastodon and someone said, maybe you should share them. And I had this instant reaction of, but they're mine. Except that an idea is fantastic only if it gets executed.

[00:01:28] And executed well. Lots of people have ideas. Ideas are not inherently valuable. It's what you do with them that is perhaps more valuable. Once an idea has been executed well, you can look back and say, oh, that idea was really valuable. I could have patented that idea. And you know, some corporations and some individuals do, but you don't know for the most part in general if an idea is really valuable [00:02:00] until you've done something with it.

[00:02:03] So as far as I'm concerned, it's the doing that's more important than the idea itself. Ideas are for everyone. I don't really have an answer, but the answer I'm trying to develop for myself right now is: how do I become someone who ships more? This podcast, in fact, is a result of that because I want to create momentum in my life to ship more.

[00:02:35] And if I ship something small, like a five minute podcast episode every day, then maybe I have the momentum to ship something bigger. I mean so far I am finding that it does create more energy. It does help me become more confident in shipping and worrying less about that perfection than I [00:03:00] talked about a couple episodes ago.

[00:03:03] But that still doesn't mean that I can do every single idea, execute every single idea that I have. So maybe, I need to figure out, we need to figure out, a criteria, a way to judge what ideas are worth our time and what ideas we can let go of. I don't know what that criteria is right now, but that's something to think about.

[00:03:35] And the other thing is I think we have to be careful about trying to make a lot of ideas happen at once. It's kind of like the people on January 1st who try to start working out, eat better, sleep on time, wake up earlier, and also, you know, meal prep. If you try to do too many things that are [00:04:00] brand new in your life all at once, you'll probably fail at all of them.

[00:04:06] So we have to be careful about not trying to do everything at once. And so maybe we can come up with a schedule. Okay, in this month, I'm gonna work on this month two, I'm gonna work on this. We won't go through, get through everything, but maybe we can get through a little bit more if we're a little more intentional and slow down just a tiny little bit in our execution and enthusiasm.

[00:04:38] That's a lot of different ideas I know, but that's what I've been thinking about today. Thanks for listening. Talk to you tomorrow.
