Celebrate

[00:00:00] **Aurooba Ahmed:** Well, hello! This is The Daily Five with Aurooba, that's me, where we reflect on creating our best lives a little bit every day. Here we go.

[00:00:15] Today's episode is a short one. If you're listening along roughly as this season is released, this episode is going out on the 1st of February. And I've touched on this a bit when I've talked about completing stress cycles. But, it deserved its own little episode. And the this is that celebration is important.

[00:00:41] Whenever I think about this, I am generally reminded of a scene from the legal drama show Suits, which I've been rewatching recently. Harvey Specter is one of the main characters, and he finally makes name partner. So his firm is now called Pearson Darby Spector. And this is a big deal. When his secretary comes in and says, it's a dream come true for any lawyer, Harvey says, "I don't have dreams, I have goals. now it's on to the next one."

[00:01:12] And I think we're all a lot like that sometimes. We hit our goals and then we move on to the next goal. Or, even if we don't move on to the next goal, we forget to celebrate. Maybe it's because by the time you hit most of your goals, they aren't as wild and out there feeling. They're a lot more a normal part of your day or something, you know? We forget that there is in fact, there was in fact, a time when this moment, this state or situation was a goal, and we didn't know if we'd get there or how we would.

[00:01:49] Celebrations don't have to be large and grand. They don't have to be loud or involve a lot of people. They can be, and sometimes they should be, but they don't have to be. I think when most people think of celebrations, they often think of new beginnings or next chapters. Like birthdays, weddings, buying a home, milestones we often measure our life success by.

[00:02:15] But finishing that tough project that wouldn't seem to end is also worthy of celebration.

[00:02:22] Finally being able to wake up at 5am consistently is also worthy of a celebration.

[00:02:29] So, we're one twelfth of the month, of the year, in, and it's time to assess your progress, see how you've done, celebrate your progress, and then adjust course as necessary. I invite you to think about what a small celebration could look like as this new month starts and the old one ends, and then Go do that.

[00:02:55] Because working hard, being ambitious, wanting to improve, create a better life, all of these things and more are great, but we're not just here to slog through life, and some people in the world don't have this kind of opportunity that we have, that you and I have. So I think we should recognize our privilege and ability to celebrate, to take a moment and appreciate what we've got, where we are, and how we're doing. It is worth it.

[00:03:29] I don't know what your purpose is. I sometimes don't even know what my own purpose is. I grapple with that on a weekly, if not daily, basis. But whatever it is, enjoying your time is surely some part of it, in whatever way you define enjoyment. So, I encourage you to try and do that, and make it a regular part of your day, or week, you know, your life, because that is important too.

[00:04:00] It's important to recognize our faults and the places where we go wrong, but it's also important to recognize the places where we do right, go right, and do well.

[00:04:15] That's what I've got for you today.

[00:04:20] Thanks for listening. Same time tomorrow?
